Learning problems know no age limit. Many students in high school and college struggle to reach their academic and professional goals even as their path is made more difficult by learning disabilities and related issues. We have tried to include information about resources that we think will make this process easier.

Older students with learning differences need to be aware that the IDEA, the law which provides many of the rights to students with learning disabilities, does not apply to adults or teens who have graduated from high school. We recently came across an excellent article on the website LDonline which discusses the legal rights of individuals with learning differences after high school.

Learning Outside the Lines, by Jonathan Mooney and David Cole (Fireside/Simon & Schuster, 2000) was written by two Brown University graduates, one of who did not read until he was 12 because of dyslexia, and the other of who dropped out of high school at age 15 because of issues related to Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder. We found their compelling personal stories and guides for academic success to be extremely worthwhile.
